Beginning in 2022, all major network providers, including T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint, will be discontinuing 3G service to all channels. While some may shut off 3G faster than others, it is inevitable that fleet managers must update to 4G ELDs before February 22, 2022. The longer one waits, the slower and less reliable their devices will become.
The 3G shutdown has been in the works for quite some time, and with 4G and 5G networks on the rise, services have decided to bring an end to the lower performing network. AT&T in specific is planning to replace 3G towers with 4G and 5G towers in effort to improve their coverage rather than have them obsolete. This means that our 4G ELDs will have improved service as well. Although some may view this in a negative light, the transition to end 3G will lead to higher performing ELDs and increased safety for truckers and fleet operators.
AT&T has confirmed their 3G sunset, “We plan to end service on our 3G wireless networks on February 22, 2022. This date is firm due to the complexity of this transition…”, while T-Mobile/Sprint has just decided to carry out 3G for slightly longer, stating “We have made the decision to extend our deadline for the CDMA sunset by three months to March 31, 2022.”

After the items are shipped and installed, our team will send out a provision form to set up the devices on our network. This network allows you to track your vehicles and access all additions you purchased with your ELD. We stay in touch with you throughout the entire process and have a great support team you can reach out to as well.
If customers do not upgrade to a 4G ELD soon enough, they will not be compliant under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). This means companies could face fines exceeding $10,000.00 per non-compliant vehicle.
